Jerome Elam Shorty Award

thumb_jerome-elam

Ark of Hope for Children and founder Blair Corbett are nominating Jerome Elam for the #Journalist Shorty Award.  Jerome is a journalist for the Washington Times through his column “A Heart Without Compromise, Advocating For Children”.

As a past victim of childhood sexual abuse, Jerome Elam now combines his passion for writing with his own past to bring awareness to child abuse and child sex trafficking. Jerome’s efforts encourage his readers to mobilize to bring help to child abuse and child trafficking victims nationally. Jerome has written many articles on child abuse, brought insight to male child abuse in light of the Penn state scandal, as well as writing articles about the horrors of child sex trafficking.

Recently many articles have been written about the huge numbers of human trafficking victims at the Super Bowl. Written by well spoken individuals like Ark of Hope for Children's great friend Jerome Elam with the Washington Times these articles bring attention to a tragic practice. And some of us pay attention for perhaps the first time to the horrors of Human, especially child sex trafficking in the United Sates. Sadly others are saying the numbers of victims is inflated, which can stand to make people think the problem is not such a real problem after all.

An End To Silence; Post 5 of 6 by Jerome Elam

thumb_iStock_000000425926Small"The process of giving testimony reopens deep wounds and throws victims into a tailspin when they are forced to relive such a traumatic event. In playing the “Devil’s Advocate” I am sure there are accusations that can be unfounded but that is why we need a credible and unbiased investigation of abuse claims by an organization with no ties to the alleged perpetrator that has credibility with survivor networks, Mental Health Professionals and Law Enforcement."

"Another important issue is that of the abused becoming the abuser. It is the typical defense strategy of any pedophile who faces imminent prosecution. Jerry Sandusky’s lawyers probably already have this story in place for use at trial."

Pedophiles and pimps score at large sporting events like Super Bowl XLVI

thumb_Prostituted_lgDALLAS, January 17, 2011—As the roar of the crowd fills Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on February 5, two teams will struggle for victory in Super Bowl XLVI. Fans will cheer for their chosen heros, unaware thata darker struggle will be taking place in the cheap hotels and brothels surrounding the stadium.

The annual Super Bowl weekend is considered to be the largest sex trafficking event in the United States, and some even say it is the largest in the world. In dimly lit rooms, pimps and johns will buy and sell child prostitutes as part of the reprehensible crime of sex trafficking.

Human trafficking for purposes of sex has become an increasing problem surrounding major sporting events. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the fight against human trafficking was elevated to a new level. Here in the U.S., the Indiana and Michagan based Coalition for Corporate Responsibility (CCR) will be leading the charge against human trafficking during the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI.

An End To Silence; Post 4 of 6 by Jerome Elam thumb_Giving_up

Pedophiles are masters of disguise and span social class and ethnicity. They are pillars of the community and use that position as a shield from public scrutiny. On the average those convicted of sexually abusing a child serve less than a year of jail time and 32% to 46% serve no jail time at all.

The world of dysfunction is their hunting grounds and they manipulate their victims with kindness and caring forming a bond absent in the child’s life. Emotional blackmail is the most effective tool in the Pedophile’s arsenal.

An End To Silence; Post 3 of 6 by Jerome Elam

thumb_What_now“As victims of childhood molestation boys face significant and unique barriers in reporting what they intuitively know is inappropriate behavior. I have a unique perspective on this issue because as a boy of three years old I (Jerome Elam) became a victim of sexual abuse that lasted nine years. I was victimized by a family member who was not a blood relative as happens in many cases of abuse. Born to a teenage mother who lacked the maturity to adequately care for a child I became unwanted baggage that attracted anger at the burden I imposed. Married at seventeen and divorced at twenty my mother banned my biological father from contact after his physical abuse of her."

An End To Silence: Child Abuse Victims Speaking Out, Part 2 of 6

thumb_Beaten"The Penn State scandal has begun the demolition of the wall of silence surrounding pedophilia, and like the liberation of East Germany, those victims of childhood sexual abuse now have a fighting chance to find justice for stolen childhoods and vandalized dreams. As victims of childhood molestation boys face significant and unique barriers in reporting what they intuitively know is inappropriate behavior. Approximately 1,460 children died in 2005 due to child abuse or neglect. Seventy-nine percent of these children were under the age of 4 years old.

An End To Silence-post 1 of 6

An End To Silence; Post 1 of 6 by Jerome Elam originally published in the Washington Times, November 26, 2011—

silenced_sm“The world of college sports had been thrown off balance by recent allegations of sexual abuse against Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant football coach at Penn State University. Sandusky is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with young boys he met through the “Second Mile” charity he founded in 1977, and using the athletic facilities at Penn State as a haven for his abusive actions.

Since the release of the grand jury report on November 4 of this year, a growing list of victims have come forward to speak of their abuse by Sandusky. The most recent accusations have come from one of his own grandchildren.

Jailbait Pedophilia on Reddit.com?

I recently read this article on Jezebel.com about a group that has been free to use Reddit.com as a place to swap and share photo's of clothed pre-teen young girls in its "jailbait" section. Recently Reddit ran a successful boycott of Godaddy.comfor its support of a proposed government internet privacy action called SOPA. You read the shorted quoted portion then can click the link to read the rest. My question for you; Is it perhaps time for a boycott of Reddit for not showing some tasteful self-control over a group which that apparently has tasteless goals in mind?

Reddit's Pedophilia Posse And The Return Of Jailbait

"Reddit's "jailbait" section, on which users posted pictures of (clothed) young girls, was shut down last month after a moderator dispute. Pervs can rejoice, though, because now it's back.

Playing With Numbers

I just read an article which I am posting a link to that gets me so upset, as I assume it will you too, as those impassioned for abused and trafficked children. The article by Anne Collier is titled; Declines in two online risks for youth" on her netfamilynews.org website. You are all bright people so I won’t copy the entire article, but just short pieces, and then my full comment posted to the site, which I doubt will get through moderation. The author states;

“We’re seeing a continuing decline in online sexual solicitations of young people. The widely misrepresented 2000 figure from the Crimes Against Children Research Center was “1 in 5″…. it’s now 9% in 2010…. That’s “a total 50% decrease between 2000 and 2010.”

“Unwanted exposure to pornography was down too..”

“10-to-17-year-olds “experiencing unwanted pornography exposure declined from 34% to 23%...”
